Individual / Per-Person Settlement Amounts

Industry-wide estimates suggest that an individual’s PFAS settlement could range from $75,000 to $500,000 per person, though these figures are speculative and depend on the specific details of each case. Drugwatch

One law firm expects average settlements based on a tiered system: the low tier up to $75,000; the middle tier ranging from $150,000 to $300,000; and the high tier, for severe injuries, between $200,000 and $500,000. ConsumerShield

Some real-world examples of per-person payouts:

  • The Hoosick Falls case paid up to $10,000 to residents who suffered from PFAS-poisoned well water but had no other health impacts. ConsumerShield
  • Cancer cases are likely to reach $200,000–$500,000, though no results are guaranteed. ConsumerShield

Key Factors That Affect Settlement Amounts

Settlement and individual payout amounts depend on the facts of the case and the plaintiff’s damages — whether property damage, illness, or injury. King Law The main factors include:

  • Severity of illness (type of cancer, chronic conditions)
  • Degree and duration of PFAS exposure
  • Economic damages (medical bills, lost wages)
  • Property damage
  • Quality of evidence and legal representation

Ongoing Litigation

There are currently 15,213 pending lawsuits in the federal MDL (AFFF product liability litigation) representing people seeking settlements for illnesses caused by PFAS in their drinking water. In December 2025, there was a deadline for plaintiffs to submit factsheets and other records, and plaintiffs are now waiting to hear about potential settlement talks and next steps.
